Survivorship Bias: The Trap of Success Stories

"Massive profit" reports on social media are just the tip of the iceberg. You don't hear the voices of the countless traders who lost money using the same method and left the market. This is "survivorship bias."

The Lens of Risk-Adjusted Returns

If a trader triples their capital in a short time using extreme leverage, it is "luck," not "skill." Luck mean-reverts long-term, and excessive risk inevitably leads to ruin. When referencing success stories, always ask: "What risk management was in place to achieve this?"

Practical Approach

Do not benchmark against others' results. Benchmark only against your own rule-compliance rate and your own equity curve. Someone else's high-risk success is irrelevant to your system.
